Nursing Assistant Position

Additionally, under the direct supervision of licensed nurses, the nursing assistant performs various duties to assist in the care of patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. These duties include, but are not limited to, bathing, mouth care, ambulation assistance, toilet assistance, feeding, measuring vital signs and blood glucose, and transporting.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

1. Measure and record blood pressure, respirations, temperature, and pulse rate.
2. Differentiate between normal and abnormal vital signs and when to report them to the RN.
3. Successfully weigh a patient and record.
4. Apply telemetry pads and leads.
5. Assess FSBS, record. Differentiate normal and abnormal values and when to report to the RN.
6. Feed patients.
7. Calculate and record meal consumption percentage.
8. Prepare skin for a surgical procedure.
9. Utilize turning and devices to prevent pressure ulcers.
10. Keep the patient's environment clean and free of clutter.
11. Measure and record intake and output.
12. Collect specimens.
13. Perform a total bath.
14. Perform appropriate perineal care.
15. Wash patient's hair.
16. Perform oral hygiene.
17. Change linen on occupied and unoccupied bed.
18. Assist with ambulation of the patient.
19. Perform active and passive range of motion.
20. Position and reposition the patient.
21. Assist with transferring the patient.
22. Understand and apply principles of DVT prophylaxis
23. Empty drains and record.
24. Provide care to the patient with a colostomy.
25. Properly care for the patient with a foley catheter.
26. Perform a bladder scan and record.
27. Remove Foley Catheter and Intravenous Lines
28. Follow implemented strategies for the reduction of falls.
29. Perform non-sterile dressing changes.
30. Hunt and gather supplies for the RN.
31. Assist with the training of new staff serving as a preceptor

Reasoning Development: Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Deal with problems involving several variables in or from standardized situations.

Mathematical Development: Add and subtract two digit numbers. Multiply and divide 10's, and 100's by 2,3,4,5. Perform the four basic arithmetic operations with coins and as part of a dollar. Perform operations with units such as cup, pint, and quart; inch, foot, and yard; or ounce and pound.

Language Development:

Reading: Read and understands instructions, safety rules, etc. Records data via paper and electronic means.

Speaking: Speak with poise, voice-control, and confidence, using correct English and well-modulated voice.

Relationships to Data, People and Things:

Data: Compiling: Gathering, collecting and classifying information about data, people or things. Reporting and/or carrying out a prescribed action in relation to information is frequently involved.

People: Speaking, hearing, talking with people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving directions to staff, patients, families and/or visitors.

Things: Manual dexterity: Use of body members or special devices to work, and perform functions pertinent to accomplishment of job assignment.

Education: High school graduate or GED.

Experience: No previous experience required
