Make a difference supporting students as a contracted Deaf/Hard of Hearing Teacher in a collaborative school environment near Pelham, AL. Your expertise will support children who are deaf or hard of hearing to access their education, develop language skills, and thrive both academically and socially. This contract position allows you to bring specialized instruction and advocacy to a welcoming district—alongside peers passionate about inclusion. You’ll also team up with another dedicated professional already placed, sharing resources and strategies to ensure every student receives the support they deserve.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- A valid Alabama Teacher’s Certificate
- Must meet Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements, or show willingness to complete these within the required timeframe
- Required licensure for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) teaching in the State of Alabama
- Strong communication skills and a talent for collaborative work
- Passion for empowering students with diverse hearing needs
Position Overview:
- Deliver tailored instruction and support to students identified as deaf or hard of hearing across various grade levels
- Collaborate frequently with teachers, counselors, families, and other service providers
- Develop and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs), using your DHH expertise to set and achieve meaningful goals
- Advocate for accessible learning environments and facilitate the use of assistive technology
- Provide ongoing progress feedback and act as a resource on auditory and communication strategies
