Job Summary
W e are seeking a skilled GMS Applications Engineer to support a portfolio of critical Market Management System (MMS) applications, including Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED), Day-Ahead Market (DAM), Reliability Unit Commitment (RUC), Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR), and QSE Training Simulator. This individual will play an essential role in the design, development, testing, and implementation of software enhancements and solutions that drive energy market operations. This role is part of a collaborative engineering team focused on ensuring the stability, performance, and evolution of systems that underpin the energy markets. The position requires on-site work in Taylor, TX, at least two days per week, with flexibility for remote work within the state of Texas.
Job Description
- Provide technical support and maintenance for Market Management System (MMS) applications
- Troubleshoot and resolve on-call issues as a member of the 24/7 support team
- Design, test, and implement changes to MMS applications and interfaces (Web & Client/Server)
- Coordinate application setups and testing with Qualified Scheduling Entities (QSEs), Load Serving Entities (LSEs), and Resource Entities (REs)
- Conduct MMS model load testing and maintain model data in real-time
- Verify system performance during server failovers, upgrades, and patching activities
- Participate in Disaster Recovery drills and business continuity processes
- Serve as a subject matter expert and representative in internal projects and cross-functional teams
- Assist with or lead enhancements and improvements to application infrastructure and functionality
- Support training, mentoring, and oversight of less-experienced engineers or analysts
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure system reliability and effective change implementation
Job Skills Required
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience beyond degree requirements
- Strong understanding of software and systems engineering principles
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience supporting or operating market or enterprise-level software applications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
Additional Requirements
- Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred
- Experience with MMS platforms from vendors like Hitachi ABB or others is preferred
- Knowledge of data historian platforms such as OSIsoft PI is preferred
- Programming skills in FORTRAN, C, C++, Java, or Perl is preferred
- Experience with PL/SQL and relational databases is preferred
- Familiarity with real-time or large-scale distributed systems is preferred
