General Maintenance Worker

Position Summary : The General Maintenance Worker performs routine and semi-skilled maintenance tasks to support the upkeep and operational readiness of the Fort Rucker Gunnery Range complex. This role is critical to maintaining range facilities, target systems, and grounds in a safe and serviceable condition, directly impacting the success of military training operations. The worker operates under close supervision and follows detailed instructions to perform maintenance, repair, and support tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repair of range facilities, target systems, and equipment
- Operate gas-powered maintenance equipment such as mowers, blowers, and string trimmers
- Assist in the repair and replacement of automated target components and wiring circuits
- Conduct inspections of firing points, berms, and other range structures
- Operate Remote Computer Stations to support automated ranges as scheduled
- Perform vegetation control and grounds maintenance tasks
- Assist with policing and removal of brass casings on aviation firing pads
- Follow all safety protocols and report hazards or incidents promptly
Required Skills and Abilities:
- U.S. citizenship
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to obtain and maintain Tier 1 security investigation
- Ability to operate Remote Computer Stations in support of automated ranges
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in general maintenance or related field
- Basic technical knowledge of maintenance tools and equipment
- Ability to operate gas-powered equipment such as string trimmers, blowers, and mowers
- Ability to perform routine electrical and mechanical repairs under supervision
- Familiarity with safety regulations and ability to follow detailed instructions
- English language proficiency (reading, writing, speaking)
Physical Ability to:
- Lift and carry items over 35 pounds
- Operate heavy and power equipment safely
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Perform repetitive physical tasks such as mowing, trimming, and manual labor
Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
