About the Role:

The Behavioral Health Technician plays a critical role in supporting individuals experiencing mental health and substance use challenges by providing compassionate, hands-on care and assistance. This position involves working closely with clinical teams to implement treatment plans, monitor patient progress, and respond effectively to crises. The technician ensures that all clinical documentation is accurate and up to date, facilitating seamless communication among healthcare providers. By conducting clinical assessments and assisting in discharge planning, the technician helps promote recovery and long-term wellness for patients. Ultimately, this role contributes to creating a safe, therapeutic environment that supports addiction recovery and mental health stabilization.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong knowledge of clinical documentation standards and confidentiality regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
• Ability to perform crisis management and intervention effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related behavioral health field.
• Previous experience in a healthcare or residential treatment facility.
• Experience working with individuals in addiction recovery or mental health settings.
• Certification or training in behavioral health, addiction treatment, or crisis intervention.
• Familiarity with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) populations and specialized care approaches.
• Certification in CPR and First Aid.
• Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Responsibilities:

• Assist patients with daily living activities while promoting independence and dignity.
• Monitor and document patient behavior, symptoms, and progress in clinical records accurately and timely.
• Support clinical staff in conducting assessments and developing individualized treatment and discharge plans.
• Respond promptly and effectively to crisis situations using established intervention techniques.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care and adherence to treatment protocols.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients with serious emotional disturbances (SED) and other mental health conditions.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices in behavioral health.

The required skills such as addiction treatment and recovery knowledge enable the technician to support patients through their healing journey effectively. Clinical documentation and maintaining accurate records are essential for tracking patient progress and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. Crisis management and intervention skills are critical for responding to emergencies and de-escalating potentially volatile situations safely. Conducting clinical assessments and assisting with discharge planning require strong observational and communication skills to tailor care plans to individual needs. Preferred skills like familiarity with SED populations and proficiency with EHR systems enhance the technician’s ability to provide specialized care and streamline clinical workflows.
