Care Access Referral Specialist
Location: Mobile, Alabama
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Position Overview
The Care Access Referral Specialist plays a key role in coordinating referrals and supporting patient access across clinics and departments. This position serves as a primary contact for patients and providers, ensuring smooth scheduling and communication throughout the referral process.
Key Responsibilities
Referral Coordination & Patient Communication:
Make outbound calls to patients and physician offices to coordinate referrals and obtain appointment preferences.
Answer inbound calls from appointment request lines and other referral sources.
Manage referrals received via fax and ensure proper documentation in electronic systems.
Provide high-level customer service, acting as a primary point of contact for patients seeking care.
Scheduling & Administrative Support:
Schedule appointments in accordance with patient needs and clinic guidelines.
Pre-register patients and gather necessary insurance information.
Coordinate medical record requests and ensure timely delivery to clinics.
Communicate with clinical staff via EMR and phone regarding appointment updates and patient needs.
System & Process Management:
Work across various electronic healthcare systems (EMR, referral tracking tools, etc.).
Maintain accurate and updated referral records and appointment logs.
Support online referral processes via web-based platforms (e.g., Formstack, patient portals).
Review schedules daily to identify and fulfill record needs or follow-ups.
Assist with prior authorizations as needed in collaboration with insurance and clinical teams.
General Support:
Respond to general inquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
Provide basic patient information such as directions, parking instructions, and clinic details.
Ensure all referrals are properly linked to appointments and processed in a timely manner.
Maintain communication with patients, providers, and internal departments to support efficient referral outcomes.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
4+ years of clerical experience in an access center, customer service, or healthcare setting.
Preferred experience:
Working with Electronic Medical Records (EMRs).
Using referral tracking software (e.g., Cerner, Careweb).
Managing precertification and insurance referral processes.
