Now, we’re entering a new phase of growth and are looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join our team, contributing to the design, development, fielding, documentation and support of manufacturing test and provisioning software. The ideal candidate will thrive working in an innovative and fast-paced work environment, have excellent critical thinking and organizational skills, and will play a pivotal role in ensuring PDW’s high quality standards are met during all phases of production. This Junior Software Engineer position is a hybrid role working between the software design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure the highest quality hardware goes into PDW drones.

What You’ll Do

  • Implement and maintain software management processes and methodologies for production software deployment.
  • Help administer sub-assembly and final assembly test fixture software and configuration management.
  • Conduct systematic checks on all stages of production software development to guarantee the final product validates the required product specifications.
  • Pursues continuous improvement of production test processes leveraging System Admin/IT knowledge to add value to process decisions.
  • Help perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions in response to defects, deviations, and non-conformance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineering, production, and sales, to continuously improve product quality and efficiency.
  • Help train personnel on quality processes and procedures to ensure consistent application of best practices.
  • Learn from engineering mentors to mature as a PDW engineer with the goal of taking ownership of root cause analysis, fixture software design, and product development.

Requirements

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience with administering Linux computer users, groups, and applications.
  • Basic understanding of computer networking, firewalls, and IT best-practices.
  • Proficiency in one or more of these scripting languages: Python, Bash (or POSIX shell), Powershell, etc.
  • Strong understanding of electro-mechanical design & implementation such as robotics, drones, RC vehicles, etc.
  • Proficiency with data serialization/transport (like JSON or other).
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineer, Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 1-3 years of professional experience working with software or electronics.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Qt Framework for UI development.
  • Experience with any Python language bindings for Qt.
  • Ability to read and understand a hardware schematic; basic understanding of simple circuits.
  • Experience in a production environment which includes adherence to a Quality Management System.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, and move about regularly throughout the day and lift / carry up to 25 pounds. Must have manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment as well as standard machine shop equipment. Must be physically capable of the assigned duties.

Work Environment

This position typically operates in a standard office setting and manufacturing environment. This role requires use of standard office and manufacturing equipment and may require occasional travel to customer locations or facilities. This position may have exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and non-climate-controlled environments. May require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) depending on the environment. This is a fast-paced work environment and requires cross departmental collaboration with independent and team-based responsibilities. Standard works hours for this position are 8:30am-5:00pm with occasional overtime as operational needs demand.
