Description

We are on the lookout for a Casualty Claims Director – Field Services who will be responsible for overseeing the company’s national field-adjusting operation for casualty claims, including Auto Liability, Homeowners Liability, and General Liability. This role provides strategic direction, operational oversight, and technical leadership to ensure consistent, high-quality claims handling across a nationwide footprint. The Director will be accountable for claim outcomes, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, staff development, and alignment with organizational risk and customer-service objectives. This role focuses on direct oversight of internal field claims operations with significant client interaction.

To be successful in this role, you must have a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and extensive knowledge of insurance claims processes and regulations. The ideal candidate will have the appropriate experience and demeanor to work independently in reviewing claims, meeting with clients, and analyzing performance data. You must be proactive and take initiative as this a full-time, home-based role.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and oversee a national field claims organization handling Auto Liability, Homeowners Liability, and General Liability claims.
  • Develop and execute casualty field-claims strategies aligned with corporate goals, loss-cost management, and customer experience initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain best practices, operational standards, and performance benchmarks across all regions.
  • Partner with executive leadership, home office staff, legal, and claims operations to support enterprise-wide objectives.

Claims Operations & Oversight

  • Provide technical and operational oversight of complex, severe, and high-exposure casualty claims.
  • Ensure consistent claim handling practices across jurisdictions while accounting for local regulatory requirements and venue considerations.
  • Monitor claim severity trends, litigation rates, cycle times, and indemnity/expense performance, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Oversee investigation quality, liability determinations, coverage evaluations, negotiation strategies, and resolution outcomes.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with state-specific regulations, internal policies, and industry standards for casualty claim handling.
  • Collaborate with Legal on litigation strategy, discovery support, settlement authority practices, and trial preparation.
  • Support audits, regulatory inquiries, and internal reviews related to casualty claims performance and compliance.

People Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop regional and field claims leaders and adjusting staff and contractor networks nationwide.
  • Drive talent development, succession planning, and performance management across the field team.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, continuous improvement, and ethical claims handling.

Financial & Vendor Management

  • Manage budgets related to field operations, staffing, and casualty claim expenses.
  • Oversee relationships with external vendors (e.g., defense counsel, IMEs, investigators), ensuring cost control and service quality.
  • Support reserving accuracy and collaborate with actuarial and finance teams on loss projections.

This is a full-time, home-based role that may require some travel.

Skills, knowledge & expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctor or advanced degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive casualty claims experience, including Auto/Home Liability and General Liability.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing large, geographically dispersed field claims teams.
  • Strong technical expertise in liability evaluation, complex claims, litigation management, and coverage analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of state regulatory environments and compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to analyze data, manage loss trends, and drive process improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and executive-level presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel nationally as needed.
