Job Description
This role involves assembling, fitting, and tack welding steel components using blueprints, drawings, and work orders. You will lay out and fit large steel structures, operate common fabrication equipment, and ensure all work meets quality and safety standards in a busy manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, fit, and tack weld steel components according to blueprints, drawings, and work orders.
- Lay out and fit large steel structures using accurate measurements and layout techniques.
- Read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols to determine job requirements and welding specifications.
- Operate welding equipment, including MIG welding tools, to perform tack welding and related tasks.
- Use grinders and other common shop tools to prepare, finish, and adjust metal components.
- Operate overhead cranes and other material-handling equipment to move and position large steel parts safely.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards, dimensional tolerances, and safety requirements.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete projects efficiently and resolve production issues.
- Lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds as part of daily tasks.
Essential Skills
- 1–3 years of experience in fabrication or manufacturing environments.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and weld symbols accurately.
- Proficiency with MIG welding for tack welding applications.
- Ability to use a tape measure and other measuring tools with precision.
- Experience assembling, fitting, and tack welding steel components.
- Familiarity with operating grinders and common shop tools.
- Ability to operate overhead cranes or similar material-handling equipment.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to meeting quality and safety standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with steel and aluminum components in a fabrication or manufacturing setting.
- Experience as an assembler, welder, or fitter in an industrial environment.
- Comfort working with weld symbols and blueprint-based fabrication processes.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Reliability and punctuality in adhering to scheduled work hours.

Work Environment
This role is based in a non-climate-controlled industrial manufacturing facility, where temperatures may vary with the seasons. You will work with steel and aluminum components, using MIG welding equipment, grinders, tape measures, and overhead cranes as part of daily tasks. The standard schedule is Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The environment is active and production-focused, requiring appropriate industrial attire and adherence to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.74 - $26.00/hr.
