Hot Rolling Mill Operator — Bar & QTB Line

A day in this role

You arrive to the mill floor and review the current bar running across the bed. You check the physicals and make sure speed and QTB settings align. When the line pauses, you jump into action to prep for pass and box changes, handle minor repairs, and coordinate with teammates. Throughout the shift, you move material safely by forklift and overhead crane, watch costs and scrap, and keep customers in mind with every decision you make.

What you will do

• Monitor bar condition on the bed and understand how physical properties connect to line speed and QTB parameters
• Use downtime wisely to stage and execute pass changes, box swaps, and repair tasks
• Relentlessly look for ways to cut waste and control costs
• Champion outstanding customer service in every interaction
• Partner closely with your crew; communicate and collaborate to keep production flowing
• Push for excellence and continuous improvement each shift

What you bring

• At least 1 year of hands-on experience in a rolling mill
• Proficiency operating a forklift and an overhead crane
• Willingness to work a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays
• Basic computer literacy, including Outlook, Excel, and Word
• Ability to read and use measuring tools such as tapes, micrometers, and inside/outside calipers
• Strong multitasking skills; follow-through on assigned tasks and directions
• Team-first mindset with safety as the foundation
• Ability to follow supervisory instructions in a timely, safe manner
• Reliability, respect for others, and personal accountability
• Comfort working in an industrial setting with fluctuating temperatures

Education

• High school diploma or GED preferred
