SMT Rework and High-Reliability PCB Assembly Technician

Location: On-site
Schedule: 4/10 (Mon–Thurs)

A day in this role

You start your shift by reviewing the traveler and BOM for a new prototype build. Under the microscope, you place fine-pitch SMT devices, confirm polarity, and execute precision hand soldering on both SMT and through-hole components. Mid-morning you support the SMT line—prepping boards for reflow, performing post-reflow touch-up, and handling selective rework. Throughout the day you inspect to J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 criteria, document quality results and defects, and clean assemblies using both manual and automated methods. You collaborate with engineers on drawing interpretations, keep your certifications current, and contribute to a clean, compliant, and safe workspace aligned to our QMS.

What you'll do

• Perform high-precision hand soldering, component placement, and assembly on SMT and through-hole PCBs.
• Assist automated assembly with through-hole insertion, reflow support, and post-reflow touch-up.
• Inspect under a microscope to J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, and customer-specific requirements.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and customer documentation.
• Clean assemblies using manual techniques and automated cleaning systems.
• Accurately complete production records, quality logs, and defect reporting.
• Execute rework and repair on electronic assemblies as needed.
• Follow the Quality Management System (QMS) and internal procedures.
• Maintain required technical certifications and participate in re-certification.
• Promote a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.

Skills and experience

• J-STD-001 certification with Space Addendum (required) or the ability to obtain/maintain it.
• IPC-A-610 certification (preferred).
• 5+ years of SMT soldering within a high-reliability electronics setting.
• Strong knowledge of component ID, polarity, ESD controls, and IPC standards.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, BOMs, and assembly work instructions.
• Exceptional attention to detail and comfort with repetitive precision work.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and within a small, fast-paced team.
• Capable of lifting 35 lbs and safely operating soldering tools, microscopes, and assembly equipment.

Education and requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to work a 4/10 schedule, Monday–Thursday .
• On-site presence is required for hands-on assembly and collaboration.
• Focus areas: Aerospace, defense, and other high-reliability programs.
• Certifications: Maintain active J-STD-001 (Space) and related credentials.
• Quality: Adhere to QMS processes and documentation discipline.
• Safety: Follow all ESD and equipment safety best practices.
• U.S. Citizenship required (due to project and customer requirements).
• Must pass a background check and drug screening .
