Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $3,505 to $3,715 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,505 to $5,508 per month

This is a full-time, probationary, non-exempt position.

Positions at Fresno State are to perform their work onsite. Some positions, depending upon University needs and operations, may be eligible for remote work, one day per week, pursuant to Fresno State's remote work guidelines and the CSU policy.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

This individual reports directly to the Chair of the Academic Senate. The primary purpose of this position is to manage the Academic Senate Office and provide lead administrative support to the Academic Senate Chair, and to ensure the efficient operation of the Academic Senate, its committees, and subcommittees.

Key Qualifications

  • General knowledge of office methods, practices, and procedures.
  • Thorough, detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficient in the use of office software, technologies and systems (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Calendaring and email software, Box, Concur, CFS Datawarehouse, Adobe Sign, Forms Portfolio, and Time Administration).
  • Technical skills necessary for administration of student ratings of instruction via vendor of educational technology.
  • Thorough knowledge of English, grammar usage, spelling and punctuation required in oral communication, and correspondence.
  • Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.
  • Interpret and apply policies and procedures independently where specific guidelines may not exist.
  • Apply sound logic, judgment, discretion, and initiative in a timely manner.
  • Adjust priorities and be responsive to short-notice requests.
  • Analyze data and information, find and evaluate alternative solution and make recommendation.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent and three years of recent progressively responsible general office experience which includes full functional knowledge of and skill in standard administrative office procedures, practices and equipment; as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures or four years of progressively responsible clerical work.

  • Experience composing and preparing professional, complete and accurate correspondence.

Department Summary

The Academic Senate represents the Fresno State faculty. It is composed of faculty elected to represent all of the university's departments and programs. Under the university's constitution, it is empowered to formulate, review, revise, and adopt all policies regarding the university's educational mission, including matters directly affecting the institution's budget. Through the Academic Senate, the faculty has the primary responsibility the university's most fundamental responsibilities of curriculum, methods of instruction, research and creative activity, faculty status, and those aspects of student life related to the educational process. Most importantly, the Academic Senate defends the academic freedom of all faculty at Fresno State consistent with the principals laid down by the American Association of University Professors.

Joint decision-making and consultation between the faculty and the administration is based on collegiality, mutual respect, and trust among all parties. Collegiality consists of a shared decision-making process and set of values regarding the members of the various university constituencies as essential for the success of the academic enterprise.
