The VP of Post Collections is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of one or more landfill sites. This leadership role includes managing daily operations, regulatory compliance, environmental monitoring, staff supervision, budget control, and long-term strategic planning for the landfill’s lifecycle. The VP ensures the landfill operates in accordance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations while meeting company performance, safety, and sustainability goals.

$180,000 - $225,000 yearly

• Manage all day-to-day landfill operations, including waste disposal, equipment use, soil cover, leachate and gas collection systems, and site safety.
• Ensure optimal usage of airspace, compaction strategies, and operational efficiency.
• Monitor and adjust daily operations to meet tonnage, service, and compliance goals.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and permit conditions (EPA, state environmental agencies, etc.).
• Oversee environmental monitoring programs, including groundwater, leachate, landfill gas, and storm water.
• Prepare and submit reports and documentation required by environmental regulatory bodies.
• Develop and manage operating budgets, capital expenditures, and cost-control measures.
• Review and approve vendor contracts, equipment purchases, and service agreements.
• Enforce safety protocols and OSHA standards to ensure a safe working environment.
• Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and promote career development.
• Serve as primary liaison with local government officials, environmental agencies, and community stakeholders.
• Address complaints or concerns from the public in a professional and proactive manner.
• Participate in long-term site development planning, including cell construction, closure plans, and post-closure care.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on site design, construction projects, and environmental upgrades.
• Evaluate and implement technology solutions to improve operational efficiency and reporting.

Working Conditions:

• Primarily field-based at landfill sites; some office work required.
• Exposure to outdoor elements, dust, noise, and heavy equipment.
• Requires occasional travel for training, audits, or corporate meetings.

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or related field (relevant experience may be substituted).
• 7–10 years of progressive experience in landfill, waste management, or environmental operations, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
• In-depth knowledge of landfill operations, regulatory compliance, and environmental monitoring systems.
• Familiarity with heavy equipment, landfill liner systems, gas extraction, and leachate management.
• Strong leadership, communication, and budget management skills.
• Proficiency in operational and environmental reporting tools and software.
• SWANA certifications (e.g., MOLO – Manager of Landfill Operations).
• Experience working with state and federal regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA, state DEQs).
• Engineering background or experience managing construction projects at landfill sites.
