Summary:
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, responsive, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, prepare and file legal documents accurately, follow instructions carefully, and contribute to a high standard of service and execution as well as assisting attorneys with case management. As Paralegal, the candidate will be responsible for administrative case management and litigation support as well as handling sensitive firm and client information with the utmost discretion and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
Under attorney direction, responsibilities include:
-Editing and preparation of legal documents, pleadings, proposed orders, discovery, correspondence to clients, administrative duties, assisting with billing support, prebills, and time entry.
-Assisting attorney(s) in preparing for trials, hearings, and depositions.
-Prepare presentations, reports, and client correspondence.
-Formatting briefs, pleadings and other legal documents.
-Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices.
-Aid attorneys with interrogatories and other discovery requests.
-Maintain and organize case files (electronic files and physical files), electronic databases and tracking systems and make sure the files are up to date for ease of locating information on cases.
-Proofread legal documents and cite check briefs as required.
-Answering incoming calls, greeting clients, maintaining attorney calendars, general office tasks.
-E-filing/e-service of documents in federal and state courts, and administrative agencies.
-Utilize legal research tools, such as LexisNexis, to support case strategy and litigation preparation.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Must be organized, detail-oriented, and have a high level of proficiency in Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and have hands-on experience with office equipment (e.g. fax machines, copiers and printers).
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with clerks or Judges in various courts, opposing attorneys, and the clients.
-Must have the ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities.
-Must provide excellent customer service (internally and externally).
-Must be a self-starter and possess good time-management abilities.
-Must have solid written and verbal communication skills.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
-High school degree; additional certification in Office Management is a plus.
-Paralegal associates degree or other relevant certification preferred but not required.
