Position Purpose The Credentialing Specialist is primarily responsible for managing non-traditional and complex credentialing applications, which require a higher level of critical thinking. These applications include the telehealth, telemedicine and locums practitioners across all regions for all hospitals. In addition, this position will assist the supervisor with the quality plan. This position is supervised by the Credentialing Analyst. Responsibilities & Tasks- Initiates and oversees complex and/or non-traditional credentialing processes
- Works independently to facilitate the verification process for practitioners under the credentialing by proxy agreements.
- Manages the locums and telemedicine process in a time-sensitive fashion, working with vendors and hospitals
- Collaborates with supervisor on quality plan, as developed
- Uses own judgment in overseeing the privilege development and approval for telehealth and locums providers
- Ensures applications are verified per medical staff bylaws, Joint Commission standards and department policies
- Liaises between CVO/hospitals; completes verification documents; loads into credentialing software
- Tracks responses and follows-up on items not received within established time frames
- Communicates with hospitals about status of verification process, missing items, and red flags
- Monitors practitioner appointment and credentials expiration dates for assigned hospitals.
- Follows up with hospitals on approval dates and enters into database
- Inactivates practitioners in database per hospital request and procedure
- Conducts, participates in, and maintains credentialing and privileging
- Maintains a working knowledge of medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations
- This is a remote position but candidate must live within a 50 mile radius of the Home Office in Birmingham, AL
- CPCS or CPMSM preferred
- High school degree required
- Three years' experience in medical staff credentialing preferred
