Technical Designer
JNJ Apparel is seeking a goal-oriented, proactive, and organized candidate to join our Sourcing Team to bring the ideas of our customers to life. This role will be responsible for creating, manipulating, and modifying technical designs of garments and soft goods to ensure that they are manufactured to our standards. You will work closely with the Sourcing Team through the design and development process by executing innovative design solutions, providing color direction, fabric/finish, print and pattern, trim, and fit intent. You will be working with the following lifestyle and apparel brands: Realtree Outdoors, Mossy Oak, Banded, Southern Point Co, Over Under Clothing Company, Gen Teal, Coosa Cotton and various other private label businesses. You must be located in Tuscaloosa, AL or willing to relocate. You will need to present a portfolio to be considered for this position.
Responsibilities
- Build, manipulate, and modify detailed tech packs and art sheets for a variety of garments, including but not limited to: men’s and boy’s outdoor/hunting and lifestyle clothing, unisex casual wear, and soft goods.
- Create and update specification tech packs, included graded measurements and construction details
- Work closely with Sourcing Team and customers to ensure the vision for the products have been portrayed accurately
- Recommend construction techniques that can enhance or improve target design
- Reviewing factory samples to ensure garments were constructed as intended
- Communication with overseas vendors about grading, production times, pricing, etc.
- Researching competitors and new trends in the market
- 5-10 years of technical design experience working with wovens and knits.
- Degree in technical/fashion design required
- Experience in using WFX or other PLM systems
- Knowledge of garment construction, fit, fabrics, colors, and trims
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook
- Strong understanding of apparel and fabric behavior on the body and attention to detail
- Work out of the box, multitask and juggle projects and processes for quick and accurate turnaround.
- Ability to work quickly and meet tight deadlines
- Creativity to present your own ideas for new products to customers is a bonus
- Verbal and written communication skills are a must
- Pattern-making experience is preferred, but not required
- Experience with women’s clothing and sizing is a plus
- Leadership experience is preferred, but not required
- Must be located in Tuscaloosa, AL area or willing to relocate
- Salary: $55,000-$70,000 depending on experience
- Bonus Incentives: Bonus Incentives are available with the Tech Designer position.
