Phlebotomist I (Birmingham/Hoover/Tuscaloosa) Job Description The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. The position involves working in a fast-paced environment and requires excellent customer service skills. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data. + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. + Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes in a clear and courteous manner. + Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles. + Understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. + Ensure accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts. + Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature. + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department training. + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + 1+ years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital or clinical setting + can perform 30+ blood draws/volume, including all age groups from pediatric to geriatric. + Strong phlebotomy skills, including blood draw and specimen collection and processing. + Strong customer service skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Flexibility to work at different sites. + Knowledge in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, coagulation, urinalysis. + High school diploma required; 2+ years of experience preferred. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $18.75/hr.
