Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Cath Lab position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring interventional Cath Lab experience and an AL or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in a 4-room Cardiac Cath Lab/Cardiovascular Recovery (CVR) unit at a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center
- Required case experience includes: STEMI/NSTEMI, LHC/RHC, CHF, Angina, ACS, Afib, IABP/Impella, CTOs, staged/protected PCI, pericardiocentesis, and temporary pacers
- EP, vascular, PE, and hybrid/structural cases (e.g., Watchman, TAVR, PFOs) are performed in the lab but prior experience is not required
- Patients seen per day: approximately 20–25
- Post-procedure patients not from the ICU are recovered in the CVR area
- 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1900, 3 shifts per week (36 hrs/week)
- Weekend on-call rotation every 4th weekend, Friday end-of-shift through Monday 0630
- Weekday schedule includes approximately 1 on-call night per week and possibly 1 late shift per week; late shift and call shift are not worked concurrently
- On-call response time is 30 minutes; call rooms are available
- One major and one minor seasonal holiday required per contract
- Floating may occur to IR or CVR; prior experience in those areas is not required
- EMR: Cerner (primary); also uses XPER hemodynamic monitoring (Philips), IntellaSpace PACS, Plum 360 IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
Requirements
- Active AL RN license or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of interventional Cath Lab experience required (diagnostic-only experience is not sufficient)
- Proficiency in groin and radial site management (including VascBand), moderate sedation, drip titration, emergency drug knowledge, defibrillator/pacer use, rhythm recognition, and anticoagulant administration
- Comfort with ventilator alarms (identifying critical vs. non-critical) required; vent management experience is not required
- 1 reference from a charge nurse or above from within the past 12 months required for consideration
- DOB (day and month) required for consideration
- Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Unit support includes a Cath Lab Coordinator/Supervisor, RT (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), on-call Cardiologist, and an RRT/Code Team
- Leads are available for travelers who do not have their own
- New travelers to the facility receive 24 hours of classroom orientation followed by 1–3 shift on-unit orientation depending on comfort level
- Travelers on a second or subsequent assignment may be trained as a monitor tech
- Green hospital scrubs are provided
- Scheduling cycles run 3–6 weeks; block scheduling is not guaranteed
- An interview is required prior to any offer being extended
