Counselor II – Substance Abuse Treatment Company: Family Life Center, Inc.

Position Summary
Family Life Center, Inc. is seeking a qualified and compassionate Counselor II to provide mental health and substance abuse treatment services to adults and their families.
The Counselor II provides individual, group, and family-based treatment; case management; crisis intervention; and continuing-care coordination. This position works closely with clinical staff, community partners, treatment courts, probation departments, and other authorized agencies to support positive treatment outcomes.
Primary ResponsibilitiesProvide individual, group, family, and multi-family group counseling.
Deliver psychoeducational services, basic living-skills education, medication monitoring, and crisis intervention.
Use treatment techniques and clinical approaches appropriate for the individuals served.
Consult with supervisory and clinical staff regarding appropriate treatment methods and client interventions.
Coordinate services with treatment providers, probation departments, treatment courts, family-reunification programs, and other authorized agencies.
Provide case management during program participation and assist with continuing-care planning.
Help ensure treatment services meet the center’s operational, clinical, and service-level requirements.
Maintain timely, accurate, and complete client records and corresponding billing documentation.
Ensure client files comply with Family Life Center policies, Alabama Department of Mental Health requirements, Alabama Medicaid standards, contracting-agency requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
Participate in required training opportunities and staff meetings.
Assist with general clerical responsibilities as needed.
Complete special projects and other assignments as directed by the Executive Director.
Applicants must qualify as a Qualified Substance Abuse Professional II (QSAP II) under Alabama Department of Mental Health and Alabama Medicaid requirements through one of the following pathways:
A bachelor’s degree from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university in psychology, social work, community counseling, rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, family therapy, or another behavioral-health field requiring equivalent clinical coursework, and current licensure in Alabama as a Bachelor Level Social Worker; or
A bachelor’s degree in one of the qualifying fields described above, and a substance abuse counselor certification recognized by one of the following:
Alabama Association of Addiction Counselors
National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors
Alabama Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association
International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse, Inc.
Additional requirements include:
Individuals in recovery must have at least two years of continuous sobriety.
Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification through an approved certifying organization.
Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must demonstrate integrity, honesty, professionalism, and dependability.
Must be proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office applications.
If the position requires transporting clients, the employee must possess an unrestricted, unexpired Alabama driver’s license and remain insurable to operate program vehicles.
The employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The position also requires the ability to use hands and arms, communicate effectively, and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
The work is generally performed in an environment with a moderate noise level. The employee may occasionally be exposed to prevailing outdoor weather conditions.
