Traffic Engineer (3+ Years Experience) | Huntsville, AL

Our client is seeking a Traffic Engineer who is passionate about improving transportation safety and efficiency within our communities. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical foundations who is ready to grow into project management responsibilities while working closely with senior leadership.

You will support and lead components of transportation safety and planning projects, focusing on reducing crashes, improving traffic flow, and enhancing roadway operations.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in field reviews, data collection, and site evaluations.
• Communicate findings clearly through written reports and presentations.
• Conduct traffic studies, safety analyses, and operational assessments.
• Utilize traffic engineering software for modeling, analysis, and design support.
• Support and manage components of traffic engineering and transportation planning projects.
• Prepare technical reports, exhibits, and recommendations for roadway improvements.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, planners, and the Assistant Director on project delivery.

Qualifications/Must Haves:

• Valid driver's license.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or closely related field)
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in traffic engineering or transportation planning.
• Working knowledge of key transportation references, including Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Highway Safety Manual (HSM), Access Management Manual, Trip Generation Manual.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience supporting or coordinating project tasks with senior leadership.
• Passed the Professional Engineer (PE) exam or actively progressing toward licensure.
• Experience with traffic engineering and design software such as: MicroStation, ArcGIS, Synchro, VISTRO.
