Pipefitter
Job Overview:
As a Shipyard Pipefitter, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining pipes and piping systems used in the construction and repair of ships. You will work in a shipyard environment, often outdoors, and may be required to work at heights or in confined spaces. Your primary goal will be to ensure that all piping systems on board ships are installed and maintained to the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout and installation of piping systems.
- Install pipes and piping systems, including fittings, valves, and other components used in ship construction and repair.
- Use hand and power tools, including saws, grinders, and drills, to prepare pipes and piping systems for installation.
- Use precision measuring instruments, such as levels and plumb bobs, to ensure that pipes and piping systems are aligned and installed correctly.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure that all piping systems are installed and maintained to the highest standards of quality and safety.
- Follow all safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical school training in pipefitting or a related field is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience as a pipefitter in a shipyard or marine environment.
- Strong knowledge of pipes and piping systems used in ship construction and repair.
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools, including saws, grinders, and drills.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
