Business Interiors, a MillerKnoll Certified Dealer, is seeking to fill an Installer position (On-site in Birmingham, AL) for our rapidly growing company. The Furniture Installer is a skilled professional who brings a vision to reality by delivering high-quality furniture installations at client locations. With a keen eye for detail, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a commitment to teamwork, this role ensures every installation meets the company’s standards and exceeds customer expectations.

ESSENTIALS FUNCTIONS:

  • Preparation for Installation or Delivery: Check that order is complete, load truck, and unload product on site. Prepare installation sites, ensure proper placement and removal of any existing furniture or obstacles if required.
  • Installation and Assembly: Perform the installation and assembly of a wide range of furniture products, including but not limited to desks, chairs, cabinets, workstations, conference tables, marker boards, and shelving units, ensuring they are set up correctly and securely.
  • Quality Assurance: Inspect all installed furniture for proper functionality and safety. Make any necessary adjustments or repairs to ensure quality and durability.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety standards such as OSHA requirements and company policies to ensure a safe working environment for all. Handle all tools and equipment responsibly.
  • Final Inspection of Job Site: All furniture is to be cleaned with labels removed. All trash should be removed and properly disposed of. Site should be free of debris and vacuumed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to company safety procedures.
  • Handle heavy furniture items with care, following safety protocols to prevent injuries and damage to products.
  • Load products onto truck using proper equipment.
  • Check off product to confirm order is complete.
  • Ensure all necessary equipment and tools for unloading and installing the product are properly secured on the truck before departure.
  • Secure product in truck so no damage occurs during transportation.
  • Confirm proper documentation and PPE needed to enter job site.
  • Review install drawings and office paperwork prior to arriving at job site. Ensure all drawings and office paperwork are taken to job site for reference.
  • Safely deliver products to the job site while ensuring compliance with all traffic laws.
  • Upon job site arrival, verify correct location for delivery. For installations with multiple locations, verify each floor, room, and/or location.
  • Unload products from truck and verify no damage from transit.
  • Deliver products to designated area and place products in correct locations based on starting point.
  • Determine the correct order of installation.
  • Refer to instructions when installing products, if needed.
  • Verify power needs and location of power.
  • If installing a wall mounted product, determine what the wall type is and the correct fasteners to use.
  • Mark walls properly based on installation drawings.
  • Determine the proper placement for wall mounts so they are securely attached to the wall.
  • Build, mount, and install products accurately.
  • Verify all hanging bars, coat racks, etc. are installed in cabinets.
  • Verify products are level and aligned.
  • Verify all lights work properly and cords or wiring is hidden.
  • Verify electrical works properly and all cords are hidden.
  • Confirm each product is in proper working condition, including locks.
  • Wipe product down and remove any visible tags or stickers.
  • Remove all debris and vacuum area.
  • Take multiple pictures of all products delivered and send them to appropriate team members.
  • Provide product demonstrations to clients as needed to highlight features and functionality.
  • Facilitate client inspections of products to ensure satisfaction and address any concerns.
  • Obtain client sign off and submit to proper team member.
  • Safely return the truck to the warehouse, following all traffic laws.
  • Clean debris out of the truck.
  • Turn paperwork into Field Services Support.
  • Upload photos, problems, and time into Moss.
  • Debrief with Field Services Project Manager on progress and issues.
  • Troubleshoot installation challenges as they arise.
  • Report to management or scheduling once returned to the warehouse for additional job duties.
  • Report any maintenance or safety issues to management promptly.
  • Attend required monthly safety or team meetings.
  • Be prepared to work overtime on certain projects, with or without prior notice.
  • Follow standards set for the Installation Department and adhere to the company’s Core Values.
  • Other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES:

Experience: Previous experience in furniture installation or a related field is preferred. Experience with various types of furniture and installation techniques is a plus.

Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret assembly instructions and blueprints.

Computer skills: General computer knowledge.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to communicate professionally.

Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a driving record that qualifies employee to drive company vehicles.

Problem-Solving: Effective problem-solving skills.

Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail, with a focus on delivering quality outcomes and meeting client expectations.

Flexibility: Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities to meet changing deadlines and goals.

Team Player: Ability to collaborate with internal teams and contribute to a positive work environment.

Time Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively.

Safety: Ability to learn and perform safety requirements.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent.
