The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting our attorneys through every phase of case development—ensuring that each client receives efficient, organized, and thorough legal representation. Our firm handles cases across the state of Alabama , and we are committed to defending the rights of individuals facing criminal charges.

Responsibilities:

• Assist attorneys in all phases of criminal defense cases, from initial intake through trial or resolution.
• Conduct legal research, investigate facts, and draft legal documents, including complex motions , subpoenas, discovery requests, and client communications.
• Manage and organize physical and digital case files, ensuring all information is accurate, up-to-date, and secure.
• Prepare and file court documents electronically and in person, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal procedural rules and deadlines.
• File documents using AlaFile and retrieve filings from AlaCourt and PACER.
• Communicate professionally with clients, law enforcement, courts, and other legal professionals to gather case-related information and provide updates.
• Schedule and coordinate attorney calendars, including meetings, court appearances, client appointments, and deadlines.
• Summarize police reports, witness statements, discovery documents, and depositions.
• Assist with trial preparation by preparing exhibits, organizing evidence, compiling trial binders, and managing logistics.
• Monitor and follow up on subpoenas, case deadlines, and outstanding discovery items.
• Help ensure the client experience remains smooth, informed, and respectful throughout the legal process.

Qualifications:

• 3–4 years of experience as a paralegal, preferably in criminal defense or a related legal field.
• Paralegal certification is preferred but not required with equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of criminal court procedures in Alabama, including filings and deadlines.
• Proficiency with AlaFile, AlaCourt, and PACER systems is strongly preferred.
• Experience drafting and formatting complex legal motions and pleadings.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and legal case management software.
• Strong legal research, writing, and document drafting abilities.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with high attention to detail.
• Professional and respectful communication style, especially with sensitive client matters.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle privileged information with discretion.
• Comfortable working independently while also collaborating with a legal team.
• Must be reliable, punctual, and committed to meeting deadlines in a high-volume environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary: $40,000–$45,000 per year , commensurate with experience and qualifications.
• Paid Time Off (PTO) after 90 days of employment.
