Business Interiors, a MillerKnoll Certified Dealer, is seeking to fill a Distribution Associate position (On-site in Birmingham, AL) for our rapidly growing company. The Distribution Associate is an essential team member who ensures the seamless flow of goods through the supply chain. This role maintains inventory integrity, supports logistical efficiency, and upholds safety and organization in the warehouse environment. With a commitment to detail and operational excellence, the Distribution Associate contributes to the company’s ability to meet client expectations.
- Receiving and Inspection: Assist with the receipt of incoming shipments, ensuring accuracy against purchase orders. Inspect products for damage and verify quantities before storing.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of received goods, including quantities, descriptions, and conditions. Report discrepancies or issues to management promptly.
- Organization and Storage: Ensure proper storage of received items in designated areas to maintain an organized warehouse. Label and categorize items for easy retrieval.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and best practices in handling heavy or bulky items. Maintain a clean and organized work environment to minimize hazards.
- Inventory Management: Organize and maintain inventory in the warehouse, ensuring items are easily accessible and properly labeled.
- Order Fulfillment: Pick and prepare orders for shipment, ensuring timely and accurate delivery to customers. Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently.
- Product Handling: Safely operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. Handle heavy furniture items with care, following safety protocols to prevent injuries.
- Warehouse Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment, adhering to safety and sanitation standards. Report any maintenance or safety issues to management promptly.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure efficient operations. Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding workflow and any issues encountered.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Unload truck using appropriate methods such as a forklift, pallet jack, or by hand.
- Unload trucks within the scheduled timeframe.
- Pull order the day prior to installation and confirm products and quantities are correct.
- Confirm quantities of orders for products received.
- Inspect all products for damage.
- Report discrepancies to management.
- Sign off on the bill of lading indicating if the order is complete or not complete.
- Place orders in bin locations as directed by manager.
- Complete and turn in Put Up Sheets.
- Place inventory labels on each product.
- Assist with loading trucks as needed.
- Maintain a clean working environment to minimize safety hazards.
- Always follow safety procedures.
- Safely operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Handle heavy furniture items with care, following safety protocols to prevent injuries to person or damages to products.
- Report any maintenance or safety issues to management promptly.
- Collaborate with team members and subcontractors to ensure efficient operations.
- Attend required monthly safety and team meetings.
- Follow standards set for the department and adhere to the company’s Core Values.
- Other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES:
- Experience: Some warehouse or logistics experience preferred.
- Computer skills: General computer knowledge.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to communicate professionally.
- Problem-Solving: Effective problem-solving skills.
- Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail, with a focus on delivering quality outcomes and meeting client expectations.
- Flexibility: Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities to meet deadlines and changing goals.

- Time Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively.

EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift heavy items up to seventy-five pounds with or without assistance.
- Perform physically demanding tasks throughout the day.
- Ability to squat, bend, push, pull, and lift continually throughout the day.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time on concrete flooring.
- Ability to operate forklift and pallet jack with training.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Travel as needed to client offices, jobsites, or other Business Interiors offices.
