osition Overview:
T.E. Stevens is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic specializing in CAT and Komatsu earth-moving equipment. Road truck maintenance experience is a plus. This position is safety-sensitive and requires pre-employment and random drug screening.
Essential Job Functions:
Perform maintenance and repairs primarily on CAT and Komatsu earth-moving equipment
Road truck maintenance as needed
Diagnose equipment defects by operating and inspecting machinery
Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools
Examine parts for wear or damage using micrometers and gauges
Replace defective engines and subassemblies, including transmissions
Test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency
Weld broken parts and structural components
Overhaul transmissions and repair fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems
Rebuild carburetors, grind and adjust valves
Direct workers assisting with cleaning parts and equipment assembly/disassembly
Diagnose issues and determine required repairs
Replace worn or broken engine components such as piston rings and bearings
Maintain responsibility for personal tools required to repair heavy equipment (dozers, excavators, articulated trucks, loaders, graders, skid steers, compactors)
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
Tools required to perform heavy equipment repair work
Training and experience equivalent to a formal apprenticeship
Physical ability to operate heavy equipment and machinery (backhoes, loaders, bulldozers, graders, etc.)
Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, fuel, and electrical systems
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
Additional Skills & Abilities:
Ability to read work orders, manuals, and technical diagrams
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the public
Basic documentation and report writing skills
Ability to interpret complex mechanical principles and departmental procedures
Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination
Ability to visually inspect and measure items for accuracy
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Must meet physical requirements associated with heavy work
Must be able to handle various tools, equipment, and materials safely
