Job Summary
We a re seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Engineering Technician to support testing operations involving explosive materials and related hardware used in the oil and gas industry. The technician will assist in the safe preparation, handling, and detonation of explosives to meet specific testing objectives. This role requires strict adherence to all safety procedures, federal regulations, and company protocols governing explosive materials.
Job Description
- Conduct full-scale explosive testing (field-based, not laboratory).
- Maintain precise and compliant explosive records (regulated by the ATF).
- Collect, document, and report test data accurately.
- Operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, cranes, and pressure systems.
- Perform metal fabrication work, including: Metal arc welding, Cutting torch and plasma cutting operations
- Conduct facility and equipment maintenance.
- Observe and enforce all safety rules and use of PPE.
- Identify, report, and correct potential safety hazards immediately.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
- Extensive on-the-job training provided (minimum 6-month training period).
- Internal certifications for crane operation, pressure systems, and explosive handling.
- Ongoing mentorship from senior technicians.
- ATF background check required for explosives access.
- Approximately 10% travel, mostly local (Houston area).
- Occasional overnight trips (e.g., Houma, LA).
- Travel is voluntary and reimbursed (mileage, lodging, and meals).
S kills Required
- Experience working with explosives is preferred but not required (training provided).
- Prior background in metal fabrication, manufacturing, or the military is beneficial.
- Open to entry-level candidates with strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
- Ability to use common hand and pneumatic tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Comfortable performing physical labor and working outdoors in varying conditions.
- Willingness to work in a team-based environment—no solo operations.
Education
- High school diploma or GED;
Pay Rate
- $28 per hour and higher depending on experience
