Competencies:

  1. Must possess a strong commitment to the treatment of clients with substance abuse issues.
  2. Must be knowledgeable in cultural diversity and must be able to work well w/clients with multiple problems.
  3. Ability to formulate and implement a holistic treatment plan from information obtained from consumers, their family members (when appropriate) and past and present referral resources.
  4. Must be knowledgeable of issues and therapy techniques relating to substance use & dependence as well as issues relating to mental illness.
  5. Understands diagnostic criteria for substance dependence disorder as defined in the most recent edition Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders and the dimensional criteria for placement in appropriate levels of care as defined in the most recent edition of the ASAM PPC 2r.
  6. In-depth knowledge of medications: medical purpose for usage, administration details, possible complications, side effects, interactions; psychotropic purpose for usage, administration details, possible complications, side effects and interactions.
  7. In-depth knowledge of drugs of abuse, routes of use, symptoms of intoxication and withdrawals.
  8. Knowledge of substance abuse/dependence disorders, substance-induced disorders and appropriate levels of treatment.
  9. In depth knowledge of physiological responses to medical illnesses and treatment and psychiatric illnesses and treatment.
  10. Must possess excellent ability to make clinical judgments in emergency situations.
  11. Must be able to effectively manage, organize and schedule staff to ensure a successful clinically and financial residential program.
  12. Must possess excellent ability to comprehend and maintain program and Department of Mental Health standards.
  13. Must possess excellent professional verbal and written communication skills.
  14. Must be able to interact with clients and their families in a respectful and sensitive manner.
  15. Must be able to work within the Organization to effectively serve the needs of the consumers.
  16. Must be able to work with other program staff in a cooperative, supportive manner.
  17. Must possess competent computer skills.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  1. Establish staffing guidelines and post staffing schedules in a timely manner.

  2. Review, approve, and submit timesheets to Finance Department in accordance with published deadlines.

  3. Develop and maintain programmatic schedules.

  4. Supervise and train all residential staff and provide retraining and disciplinary action when necessary

  5. Develop and maintain daily task lists for all staff to consistency in client care.

  6. Be on-call to staff to handle and staffing or clinical issues as they arise

  7. Conduct at least monthly staff meetings to communication department and agency information.

  8. Constant supervision of the program to monitor staff interactions w/clients to ensure quality care is provided.

  9. Arrange for transportation of clients to agreed upon appointments, directly provide transportation if needed.

  10. Provides outreach community services (may require home visits) as required by supervisor or program standards.

  11. Review and approve QI reports in accordance with QI policies and procedures

  12. Complete an initial assessment of consumers, develop their initial treatment plan, complete treatment plan reviews on each consumer every 14 days, and complete a discharge treatment plan with referral information included.

  13. Provide clinical program coverage, including group and individual counseling and case management.
  14. Complete timely reporting information needed for WITSas identified by the immediate supervisor.
  15. Interact with families, community agencies, and external parties, regarding client care as needed

  16. Follow the DMH/DD and Medicaid standards for provision of assessment, mental health consultation, individual therapy, case management, crisis intervention, basic living skills, medication monitoring, and family support services.
  17. Participate in meetings and committees as requested.

  18. Promote and maintain a safe environment for consumers.

  19. Ensure that all safety, fire prevention and other procedures are followed by consumers and staff at all times.

  20. Ensure that all assigned duties are implemented according to agency policies and procedures and DMH and Medicaid standards.

  21. Maintain communication and awareness of agency information by reading memos, e-mails, bulletin boards, and communication logs.

  22. Work independently and/or with teams to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner with minimum supervision.

  23. Support Organizational Code of Conduct, Standards Compliance, HIPAA and Security Programs by ensuring job tasks are performed in a legal and ethical manner, assessing the work area for non-compliance and notifying the supervisor, manager, Executive Director or designee as appropriate, and maintaining training requirements and understanding that training is a required condition of employment.

  24. Maintain the confidential nature of all consumer and Organization related activities by not divulging information outside the facility, discussing information within the facility on a need-to-know basis, acknowledging policy annually by signing confidentiality statement, and by referring media and general inquiries to the Executive Director.

  25. Adhere to attendance and punctuality policy by allowing adequate time to arrive,and assume responsibilities at designated time, adhering to meal and break times and making timely requests for annual leave and reporting the need for sick leave in accordance with policy.

  26. Comply with all standards related to safety and health by maintaining current TB Test, CPR/First Aid, CPI, and by reporting infections and on-the job injuries in accordance with policy.

  27. Identify opportunities for improving the quality of services provided by the department and the organization.

  28. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor or Executive Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in behavioral sciences required AND
  2. ADC certification OR
  3. License to private practice in the state of Alabama (LPC, LICSW).
  4. One year supervisory experience preferred.
  5. Currentdriver's license and good driving record as defined by Indian Rivers' policy and as designated in a driving position.
  6. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

Working Conditions: Works in general office environment and in residential facilities; may require long hours. Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, computer, copier, multi-line phone and fax machine. Some risk involved in the event of aggressive/out-of-control consumers. Must be able to lift twenty (20) pounds and negotiate several sets of stairs in an eight (8) hour shift. Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license.
