General Ledger (GL) Accountant

Location: Birmingham, AL (Hybrid)

About the Role

Were looking for a detail-oriented General Ledger Accountant to support accurate financial reporting and month-end close in a dynamic, growing organization. Agency experience is strongly preferred for this role is ideal for someone who understands project-based accounting, multiple cost centers, and the pace of client-driven work.

You'll play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, collaborating cross-functionally, and helping leadership understand the financial story behind the numbers.

Key Responsibilities

Own and maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP

Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments

Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes

Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances

Support project/client accounting, including revenue recognition and expense allocation

Assist with financial statements and internal reporting

Partner with AP, AR, and FP&A to ensure clean financial data

Support audits and provide documentation as needed

Continuously improve accounting processes and controls

Preferred Experience & Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance

3–6+ years of accounting experience

Agency, professional services, or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred

Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting

Experience with accounting systems (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar)

Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)

CPA or CPA-track is a plus, not required
