Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Lab Scientist to join our team in Birmingham. This role involves performing routine and complex technical procedures, ensuring the highest quality of patient care by delivering accurate and timely test results. The ideal candidate will be proficient in microbiology testing, including plate reading and gram staining, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
• Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Essential Skills

• AS or BS in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology, or meet local regulatory CLIA State requirements.
• Minimum 0-2 years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• At least 1 year of microbiology testing experience.
• Experience with microbiology testing/department - plate reading, gram staining.
• Proficiency with Cerner or Epic systems.
• ASCP or AMT certification is preferred or required.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• High level of attention to detail, along with strong communication and organizational skills.
• Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
• State Medical Technologist license may be required.

Work Environment

This position is located at the Core Lab, supporting Micro specifically, in a local hospital in Birmingham, AL. The work hours are 2nd shift: 2:30pm to 1:30am, Monday to Friday. The work environment is fast-paced, and you will be part of a team that values precision and collaboration.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Birmingham,AL.
