Paralegal

Position Purpose

The Paralegal – Compliance & Risk Management supports the organization’s compliance program by assisting with investigations, compliance hotline follow-up, litigation preparation, and regulatory documentation.

This position ensures that all compliance-related activities are documented, tracked, and maintained in a legally defensible manner while supporting Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.

1. Salary: $90,000 per year based on experience

Position:

1. The Paralegal – Compliance & Risk Management supports the organization’s compliance program by assisting with investigations, compliance hotline follow-up, litigation preparation, and regulatory documentation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Assist with coordination and tracking of compliance hotline concerns
2. Organize investigation files and supporting documentation
3. Ensure timely follow-up with facilities on investigations and corrective actions
4. Prepare investigation summaries and reports
5. Track regulatory reporting timelines
6. Support litigation preparation and coordination with legal counsel
7. Maintain legally defensible documentation
8. Assist with survey readiness and Plans of Correction
9. Maintain logs for compliance tracking and trending
10. Support QAPI, Compliance Committee, and Governing Body reporting
11. Assist with policy updates and training materials
12. Ensure document retention and legal hold compliance
13. Support multi-state regulatory tracking
14. Travel to facilities for investigations, audits, and survey readiness

Additional Assigned Tasks

1. Promotes resident rights and dignity
2. Adheres to compliance and regulatory standards
3. Maintains confidentiality (HIPAA)
4. Reports noncompliance and abuse allegations
5. Participates in emergency preparedness and infection control
6. Completes required training
7. Supports compliance documentation and reporting

Qualifications

1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, Healthcare Administration, or related field required
2. Paralegal certification preferred
3. 2–5 years of paralegal or legal support experience required
4. Healthcare or skilled nursing experience preferred
5. Knowledge of CMS regulations, HIPAA, and long-term care compliance preferred
