Minimum Qualifications Graduation with a Master's Degree or higher advanced degree in Nursing, with a clinical specialty in the appropriate area of practice. Must have successfully completed a Nurse Practitioner program recognized and approved by the Alabama Board of Nursing.

Key Responsibilities
• Obtains psychiatric assessment upon admission.
• Develops individualized treatment plans.
• Selects appropriate medication based on diagnosis, monitors for side effects and makes adjustments.
• Documents completely with clarity and accurately recording patient presentations, diagnoses/treatment

plans, and progress notes.
• Monitors lab information, including therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), metabolic side effects, and

neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS).
• Obtaining Consent for Medications, Procedures, and Capacity to Handle Daily Affairs
• Communicates clearly and concisely with patients, families and other healthcare providers and provides

timely and accurate information.
• Performs other related duties necessary to the effective operations of the facility

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
• Knowledge of general and specific psychiatric diagnoses and treatment specific to the population

served.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of clinical assessment, common health problems, mental health

issues, clinical consultation and continuity of patient care.
• Knowledge of common medications/pharmaceutical treatments and their interactions.
• Knowledge of basic laboratory work.
• Ability to work effectively with the population served.
• Ability to respond well to emergencies in a stressful environment and handle potentially volatile situations

in a calm, decisive manner.
• Ability to develop and interpret medical and psychiatric histories, conduct psychiatric assessments and

evaluate client behavior.
• Ability to communicate, educate, and inform clients, their families, and staff.
• Ability to develop accurate and concise reports and effectively document and manage client file

information.

Necessary Special Requirements
• Possession of a current advanced practice nursing certification as a Certified Registered Nurse

Practitioner (CRNP) granted by the Alabama Board of Nursing in the clinical specialty appropriate with the area of practice.
