The Collections Officer is responsible for assisting in overall collection effort involving the banks total loan portfolio with the goal of fewer delinquent loans and minimizing losses. This position may

be a front end or back-end collector depending on business needs. This role involves ensuring compliance with policy and procedures while performing collection services on delinquent loan accounts.

Responsibilities

• Activities and duties may vary depending upon functional area assigned, mainly responsible for collection efforts on simple to moderately complex consumer or commercial accounts/loans. This

position requires moderate supervision.

• Contact delinquent/charged off loan customers through telephone calls, emails, letters, and personal visits.

• Negotiating payment terms for delinquent accounts/loans and accurately notating the account following departmental procedures

• Assisting with difficult collection problems including payment disputes, alternative payment arrangements, out of policy extensions, Insurance claims, foreclosure, or repossession request, etc.

• Identifying problem accounts/loans, alerting Collection Management, and assisting in implementing an approved course of action

• As needed contact all liable debtors, evaluate willingness to pay and successfully negotiate repayment

• When requested by Collection Management, assist with higher risk or complex loans/accounts with serious delinquent problems.

• Meeting with Collection Management to recommend and implement a suitable course of action including demand letters, repossession, or foreclosure

• Resolving customer service-related issues

• Tracking loans/accounts status coded for deceased, insurance claims, or other specialty occurrences.

• Assist with departmental reporting and other special projects as requested

• Assist as needed with bankruptcies for the bank, including receipt of notices, filing proofs of claim, and working with bank attorneys.

• Represent the bank at foreclosure and meetings with attorneys to protect the bank's interests.

• Oversee foreclosed properties and movables for proper management and liquidation with regular inspections.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 High School diploma or equivalent

 Ability to function cooperatively within a collection team.

 Some knowledge of lending, loan documentation, fair debt collection regulations, consumer collection laws, foreclosures and repossessions is preferred.

 Excellent oral, written, computer and interpersonal skills.

 Good attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

 Ability to multi-task

 Organizational and analytical skills

 Good judgment with negotiating and decision-making skills.
