Sr Commodity Manager/Strategic Sourcing
Title: Senior Commodity Manager
Location: Eufaula, Alabama (Onsite, relocation considered)
Employment: Full-time, Direct Hire
Compensation: ~Experience base + bonus + benefits
Position Summary
The Senior Commodity Manager will lead sourcing strategy for high-impact, global commodities. This highly visible role drives supplier partnerships, cost and cash improvements, quality and delivery performance, and supports early supplier involvement in new product development. The position requires a proven strategic negotiator who thrives at the intersection of sourcing, operations, and engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Negotiate and administer complex procurement contracts, delivering cost savings, service, and technology outcomes.
Select, appoint, and manage a high-performing supply base aligned to company objectives.
Develop and oversee supplier performance management, including quality, delivery, cost, and process flexibility.
Lead audits, site visits, and supplier scorecard reviews; resolve quality issues and continuity-of-supply risks.
Serve as sourcing voice in NPI projects , qualifying new/updated materials and coordinating approvals with Engineering and Quality.
Implement commodity procurement plans and ensure smooth supplier transitions.
Set and monitor inventory targets; forecast demand swings and minimize scrap/obsolescence.
Lead Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) and kanban initiatives.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Production, Engineering, Quality, Finance, Logistics) to align sourcing with business needs.
Research new materials and processes; influence design to ensure low-cost, high-quality, on-time solutions.
Monitor market, logistics, and regulatory changes; provide leadership with risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
Ensure compliance with trade and international shipping requirements (Country of Origin, HTS codes).
Provide day-to-day direction to buyers; elevate sourcing discipline across the business.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field.
Experience: 7+ years in commodity management, procurement, or strategic sourcing with complex contract negotiations.
Skills & Knowledge:
Strong leadership, negotiation, and supplier relationship management.
Expertise in supplier performance management, cost savings, and continuous improvement.
Knowledge of mechanical/electrical components and manufacturing processes.
Hands-on experience with MRP/ERP systems (JDE preferred).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Ability to manage projects from strategy through implementation.
Willingness for domestic and occasional international travel.
