Assistant Shift Manager-Nights
JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Shift Manager is responsible for the efficient, safe, and accurate loading of the delivery trucks and performing the assigned warehouse tasks that accompany the position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leadership and Management: Leads, manages, supports, and motivates location’s Warehouse Shift through open and clear communication, and a commitment to participative management.
2. Safety and Training: Takes accountability for safety protocol, and for oversight of training and safety of Warehouse shift. Promotes and maintains a safe work environment at the location daily. Helps oversee safety and security of the facilities at the location.
3. Assist the Warehouse Manager in supervising all warehouse employees to ensure they are performing their assigned duties in an efficient manner.
4. Ensure all warehouse employees abide by company policies, procedures, and dress code.
5. Safely and accurately load all trucks for the current day. Research any missing pallets, cases, or license plates. Discuss any space concerns with the Warehouse and Delivery manager.
6. Require that all steps are taken to prevent the loss of product through pilferage, damage, or aging.
7. Ensure inbounds are received and stowed away daily. Ensure aisles are properly stocked and rotated.
8. Work through all breakage that occurs during the shift.
9. Make sure all areas are clean and maintained during the shift.
10. Report any accidents to Warehouse Manager immediately.
11. Must keep the warehouse and premises secure while on site and before leaving.
12. Performs all work activities in accordance with safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
13. Performs all other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION
1. Manages the daily workflow of the shift.
2. Reports directly to the Shift Manager
3. Uses strengths-based management so each person supervised comes to know his/her own strengths and weaknesses and uses strengths in day-to-day work.
4. Ensures that each employee supervised has opportunities for personal and professional growth.
5. Provides clear expectations for each supervised staff.
6. Models adherence to GDH’s Mission and Values and holds staff accountable for knowing and practicing the values.
7. Completes coaching regularly of supervised staff and annual a performance evaluation on due date.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Self-starter with the ability to manage others efficiently and effectively.
2. Ability to work cohesively across multiple departments.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
4. Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
5. Access to reliable transportation. If driving an automobile while on company business, must possess a valid driver’s license in your state of residence and auto insurance. Must be able to pass a background check, MVR, and drug screen.
6. Demonstrated ability to:
• Work effectively with internal and external individuals, including other professionals in the community.
• Work effectively as a member of the warehouse leadership team.
• Effectively communicate to various internal and external audiences in both person and through various electronic media.
• Manage time and work effectively with minimal supervision.
• Effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Occasionally required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel object, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently (50%+ of time) lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently (50%+ of time) Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and depth perception.
- Occasionally (less than 25% of time) exposed to moving mechanical equipment and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
- Frequently (more than 50% of time) travel throughout the GDH sites.
- Occasional (less than 25% of time) weekend and/or overtime work, primarily during the height of the season or when taking on new business.
