General Foreman
Genesis is seeking an experienced General Foreman to provide leadership and oversight for multiple craft disciplines engaged in ship repair, maintenance, and production activities. This role is responsible for coordinating Foremen and craft personnel across multiple work fronts, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.
The ideal candidate is a proven shipyard leader with extensive experience managing multi-craft operations, vessel repair projects, workforce planning, and production execution in a fast-paced marine environment.
What You'll Do
As a General Foreman, you will serve as a critical member of the Production Leadership Team, providing direction and support to Foremen and craft personnel throughout the shipyard.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate Foremen and craft teams across multiple ship repair and production projects.
Execute production plans in partnership with the Craft Superintendent and Production Leadership.
Monitor progress of vessel repair work, dry dock projects, conversions, and maintenance activities.
Ensure labor, equipment, materials, and resources are effectively allocated to meet production schedules and customer commitments.
Maintain a strong field presence throughout the shipyard, dry docks, vessels, and work areas.
Drive productivity while maintaining the highest standards of safety and workmanship.
Support planning and execution of structural, piping, mechanical, electrical, blasting, coating, and other shipyard craft activities.
Identify and resolve production bottlenecks, schedule impacts, and operational challenges.
Hold Foremen accountable for crew performance, quality, productivity, and safety compliance.
Review production reports, Condition Found Reports (CFRs), work packages, and project documentation.
Participate in production meetings, customer meetings, and daily planning activities.
Safety Leadership
The General Foreman is expected to:
Champion a culture of safety and accountability throughout all assigned operations.
Ensure compliance with company HSEQ requirements and all applicable regulatory standards.
Support Job Safety Analyses (JSA), Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), and hazard recognition programs.
Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions while implementing corrective actions.
Lead by example and reinforce safe work practices in all shipyard operations.
Qualifications
Required Experience
Minimum 7–10 years of experience in shipyard operations, ship repair, marine construction, heavy industrial construction, or related production environments.
Demonstrated success in a Foreman, Senior Foreman, Lead Foreman, or equivalent leadership role.
Experience managing multiple craft disciplines and coordinating complex production activities.
Strong understanding of ship repair processes, dry dock operations, vessel maintenance, and marine production schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience working with government, commercial, and military vessel repair projects.
Familiarity with shipyard production planning, estimating, and workforce forecasting.
Skills & Knowledge
Strong leadership and crew management abilities.
Knowledge of shipyard production methods and marine industry standards.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, work packages, and repair procedures.
Understanding of structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and other shipyard crafts.
Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced production environment.
Proficiency with production reporting and computer-based documentation systems.
Work Environment
This position requires regular work aboard vessels, in dry docks, fabrication shops, and throughout shipyard facilities. Work may involve:
Climbing ladders and scaffolding
Working in confined spaces and elevated areas
Exposure to noise, vibration, heat, humidity, and industrial equipment
Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
