About the Role:
The Shipping & Receiving Specialist I plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and accurate movement of goods within the supply chain. This position is responsible for managing the receipt, inspection, and proper storage of incoming shipments, as well as preparing and processing outgoing shipments in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The specialist will collaborate closely with warehouse, inventory, and logistics teams to maintain accurate records and support inventory control. Attention to detail and organizational skills are essential to prevent errors and delays that could impact customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. Ultimately, this role contributes to the seamless flow of materials that supports overall business operations and customer commitments.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of shipping and receiving procedures.
- Ability to operate standard warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks (certification preferred but not required).
- Proficiency in using inventory management software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a shipping and receiving or warehouse environment.
- Forklift operator certification.
- Familiarity with shipping regulations and carrier requirements.
- Experience with barcode scanning and electronic data interchange (EDI) systems.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities:
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and packing lists to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Prepare, package, and label outgoing shipments according to company standards and shipping regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of all shipping and receiving activities, including documentation and data entry into inventory management systems.
- Coordinate with warehouse and inventory teams to ensure proper storage and timely movement of goods.
- Communicate effectively with carriers, suppliers, and internal departments to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely delivery.
Skills:
The required skills enable the specialist to accurately process shipments, maintain inventory records, and operate warehouse equipment safely and efficiently. Proficiency with inventory management software and Microsoft Office supports daily data entry and reporting tasks, ensuring transparency and traceability of goods movement. Attention to detail is critical to identify discrepancies and prevent errors that could disrupt supply chain operations. Preferred skills such as forklift certification and familiarity with shipping regulations enhance the specialist's ability to handle complex logistics tasks and comply with industry standards. Effective communication and problem-solving skills facilitate collaboration with team members and external partners to resolve issues promptly and maintain smooth operations.
