RN Coordinator for Surgical Services FT

Job Summary
The RN Coordinator - Surgery is responsible for coordinating patient care and clinical workflows across the surgical services department. This role supports nursing and medical staff in the operating room (OR), pre-operative, and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) by facilitating communication, ensuring regulatory compliance, optimizing efficiency, and promoting patient safety and satisfaction. The RN Coordinator also assists in training and mentoring nursing staff and supporting departmental quality improvement initiatives.
Essential Functions
- Coordinate multidisciplinary surgical care, ensuring timely and safe patient transitions across pre-op, intraop, and PACU phases
- Act as clinical liaison between OR staff, surgeons, anesthesia providers, and ancillary departments
- Provide hands-on support during surgical procedures and pre/post-op care as needed
- Promote adherence to aseptic technique, infection prevention, and regulatory standards
- Support operating room scheduling, case preparation, and staff assignments
- Participate in departmental quality improvement projects and data collection efforts
- Conduct daily rounding on surgical patients and assist with patient/family communication and education
- Serve as a mentor and resource to surgical nursing staff, facilitating ongoing education and clinical competency
- Support equipment readiness and surgical supply management in collaboration with the materials management team
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
- Strong understanding of surgical procedures, patient safety, and perioperative nursing standards
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills
- Knowledge of electronic medical records and scheduling systems
- Familiarity with Joint Commission standards and CMS regulations relevant to surgical services
- Ability to lead by example in a dynamic, fast-paced clinical environment
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and assist with patient positioning and transfer
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Requires dexterity for handling surgical instruments and operating equipment
- Hospital-based surgical services, including OR and PACU
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, and surgical instrumentation
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required
- Fast-paced and high-acuity clinical setting
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s in Nursing, Healthcare Management, or Administration, preferred
Licenses/Certifications
- Current RN license in the applicable state or compact state, required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within timeframe required by facility policy
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), preferred or as required by facility policy
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of perioperative or surgical services nursing experience required
- Leadership, charge nurse, or coordination experience preferred
