The Buyer is responsible for sourcing and procuring materials, equipment, and services essential for building our boats. This role requires expertise in maritime industry standards, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to manage complex supplier relationships. The Buyer is responsible for sourcing and procuring materials and equipment that meet the shipyard’s high quality and safety standards, ensuring reliable and compliant operations.
Requirements:1. Sourcing and Procurement:
· Identify, assess, and select qualified suppliers for materials and equipment.
· Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply chain dynamics to ensure informed purchasing decisions.
2. Supplier Management:
· Build and sustain strong, strategic relationships with key suppliers in the maritime industry.
· Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to secure advantageous agreements for the shipyard.
· Continuously evaluate supplier performance and proactively resolve issues related to product quality, delivery timelines, or compliance with maritime regulations.
3. Cost Management:
· Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives and process improvements within the procurement function.
· Perform cost analyses and benchmarking to ensure competitive pricing, optimal value, and budget alignment.
4. Compliance and Risk Management :
· Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements, including maritime standards and certifications.
· Evaluate and mitigate supply chain risks, with a focus on supplier compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
5. Reporting and Analysis :
· Prepare and present detailed reports on procurement activities, cost efficiencies, and supplier performance.
· Analyze procurement data to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills/Abilities :
· Proven experience in procurement, sourcing, or purchasing—preferably in manufacturing, industrial, or maritime environments.
· Strong negotiation and contract management skills with a focus on value, quality, and compliance.
· Proficient in procurement software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, including cost analysis and supplier evaluation.
· Strong communicator with strong interpersonal skills; able to collaborate across departments and with external partners.
· Ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
· Detail-oriented and organized, with a commitment to accuracy.
· Familiarity with shipbuilding materials, equipment, and regulatory requirements is highly desirable.
· Capable of building and maintaining productive supplier relationships and managing performance over time.
· Strong decision-making skills based on data, risk analysis, and market trends.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or a related field or a combination of equivalent experience and education.
· 3+ years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management, preferably in the maritime or shipbuilding industry.
