The Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission (SEARP&DC) was established in 1969 under legislation passed by the Alabama State Legislature. Governed by a 35-member board representing seven counties, the Commission serves as a liaison between local citizens and regional initiatives. SEARP&DC is dedicated to addressing the needs of the community and setting achievable goals to foster growth and development. Its team works diligently to make Southeast Alabama a thriving and desirable place to live.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Planner role based in Dothan, AL. The Planner will focus on community planning initiatives, analyzing data, developing strategic plans, and collaborating with various community partners to support economic and community growth. The role includes creating reports, conducting research, engaging with local governments and organizations, and assisting in the preparation and implementation of planning projects. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential, as the role involves coordination with multiple public officials to achieve project goals.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in urban planning, regional planning, and community development
- Proficiency in data analysis, research, and report preparation
- Experience with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and other related software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders
- Ability to manage projects, work independently, and meet deadlines
- Familiarity with local government policies and laws is advantageous
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Public Administration, or a related field
- Professional experience in planning or a related field is preferred
