General Accountability

Responsible for safely operating and maintaining abrasive blasting equipment and overhead cranes in accordance with the site’s business goals and objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

Abrades surfaces of metal to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment: Shovels or pours abrasives, such as grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.

1. Masks specified areas of object to protect from abrading action.
2. Loads parts on racks in enclosed rooms.
3. Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel.
4. Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive-laden compressed air, gas, or liquid over surface of parts.
5. Manually directs nozzle over surface of large materials and manipulates small parts under nozzle for specified interval.
6. Examines finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.

Detailed Work Activities

1. Remove any debris from material using abrasives
2. Mount attachments or tools onto equipment.
3. Tapes off materials.
4. Measure ingredients or substances to be used in processes.
5. Examine finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
6. Adjust equipment controls to regulate flow.
7. Operate mixing equipment.
8. Move materials to enclosed room using overhead cranes.
9. Move materials or equipment between work areas
10. General housekeeping of work area(s).
11. Notify maintenance of equipment needs and repairs.
12. Mark or tag identification on parts.
13. Operate overhead cranes to move material, equipment, and parts.
14. Use fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies.
15. Requires working in varying climate changes (heat/cold).

Education and Training

1. Requires training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, or an associate's degree.
2. Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required for these occupations.
3. One or two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers. A recognized apprenticeship program may be associated with these occupations.
4. Proficient communication and or organizational skills to coordinate, supervise, manage, or train others to accomplish goals.

Schedule/Rate:

Starting at $20/hr

All shifts need to prepare for 48 hour work week!

Dayshift: Mon-Thur; 7:00a-5:30p / Fri; 7:00a-3:30p

Nightshift: Sun; 11:00p-7:00a / Mon-Thur; 9:00p-7:00a
