**Supplier Quality Engineer / Coordinator (Transmission Manufacturing Focus) - Atlanta or Birmingham** **_SCS, Technical Shared Services, Generation & Transmission Quality Department_** **WORK LOCATION & TRAVEL** + This position will be in either Birmingham, AL or Forest Park, GA (Metro Atlanta) based on candidate's preference. + This position will require a mix of field and office work. + Field work can include site visits to suppliers' shops and various project locations. + Requires approximately 50% travel, including both domestic and international destinations. + Ideal for candidates who enjoy traveling and working in manufacturing environments-this role offers frequent opportunities to be hands-on and on the move. **POSITION SUMMARY** Southern Company's Supplier Quality team brings deep expertise in manufacturing processes, welding, coating inspection, and quality systems. As a Supplier Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting Transmission projects, particularly Power Delivery Grid Modernization, by ensuring that suppliers deliver high-quality materials and equipment that meet Southern Company's specifications. In this role, you will work closely with suppliers of Transmission components to monitor and improve product quality. Your responsibilities will include conducting supplier site visits, performing inspections and surveillances, tracking and resolving customer issues, and verifying compliance with corrective actions. You will serve as a key liaison between suppliers and internal teams, ensuring that Engineering and Procurement are informed of supplier performance and corrective action outcomes. This position is essential to maintaining the integrity and reliability of Transmission infrastructure through proactive supplier engagement and rigorous quality oversight. **_Primary Responsibilities:_** + Provide manufacturing Subject Matter Expertise (SME). + Monitor supplier quality performance and form partnerships to drive continuous improvement. + Respond to quality issues and communicate with external suppliers and internal customers. + Conduct capability assessments and process validations to support supplier selection activities. + Interface with Engineering and Procurement to ensure suppliers meet Southern Company quality standards. + Track supplier quality concerns from internal customers and conduct follow-through for timely resolutions. + Perform inspections and determine acceptability of various equipment and material such as transmission line and substation products (poles, hardware, conductor, etc.), structural steel, transformers, steam turbines, hydro turbines, gas turbines, fans, motors and pumps, and various other power delivery and generation equipment. + Review suppliers' Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs). + Hire and manage 3rd party inspectors to conduct inspections at supplier facilities. + Review Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Actions for defective materials and make recommendations as needed. + Analyze non-conformance trends to evaluate effectiveness of corrective actions. + Participate in or lead problem solving teams as assigned. + Provide regular updates to the customer on the status of corrective actions. **POSITION QUALIFICATIONS** **_Education:_** + BS in Engineering, Construction Management, or related 4-year technical degree is required. **_Experience & Skills:_** + 3+ years of experience in manufacturing and/or fabricating required. + Experience interfacing with customers and suppliers. + 3+ years of experience in general industry quality or related field. + Experience developing and delivering presentations to management. + Skilled in MS Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. **_Additional Requirements:_** + Maintain adherence to all safety guidelines. + Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications. + Proactive approach to improving quality through cross functional teams, ensure participation by all team members in continual improvement, and cost reduction activities. + Possess strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work in a team environment, establishing partnerships both internally and externally. + Strong problem-solving skills. + Ability to pivot direction with changing customer needs. **BENEFITS** + Competitive Pay + Excellent benefits packages which includes: + Medical and dental coverage + Defined Pension/Cash Balance Benefit Plan + Performance-sharing plan + 401(k) plan with a generous company match + Bonus opportunities + Tuition Reimbursement **_***Please submit an updated resume with your application***_** **About Southern Company** Southern Company (NYSE: SO ) is a leading energy provider serving 9 million customers across the Southeast and beyond through its family of companies.
