We are seeking a Product Evaluation Engineer to join our Uniform Evaluation Services (UES) team in Birmingham, Alabama. This role is responsible for evaluating construction products for compliance with applicable building codes and standards, developing technical reports, and supporting both new and existing clients throughout the evaluation process.
The ideal candidate will have a background in civil, structural, or architectural engineering, strong technical analysis skills, and experience within the construction industry, product testing, or building code enforcement.
Key Responsibilities
- Review technical documentation, including test reports, engineering calculations, product literature, and supporting data to determine compliance with applicable building codes and standards.
- Prepare evaluation reports, listings, and technical criteria documenting product compliance.
- Support business development efforts by assisting with customer inquiries, applications, and quotations.
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to provide technical guidance and recommendations.
- Attend trade shows and industry events to promote the UES program and build industry relationships.
- Ensure compliance with ANSI accreditation requirements and company quality management systems.
- Assist directors, senior engineers, and leadership with special projects and initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all company policies and safety procedures.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
- Minimum of three years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Construction industry
- Building code development or enforcement
- Product testing
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Preferred:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with building code compliance and evaluation services.
Work Environment
- Hybrid work schedule based in Birmingham, Alabama.
- Primarily office-based in a climate-controlled environment with occasional outdoor responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Regular, reliable attendance is required.
- Ability to travel up to 30% nationally.
