Operator

Job Summary

Responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient removal of vegetation along rights of way for infrastructure projects such as roads, powerlines, or pipelines. Responsible for operating machinery such as bulldozers, excavators, or brush cutters to clear trees, brush, and other obstacles in designated areas.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in the work area. Establish safety barriers to protect the public.

Trim and/or remove trees by climbing. This includes using a ladder, lift truck, climbing line and using hand powered saws/pruners.

Use hand spray equipment to spray stumps to prevent future growth.

Cut branches and/or trunk sections into manageable pieces to lower to the ground.

Safely operate the woodchipper.

Service and maintain tools and equipment.

Willing to help train new employees.

Work safely in close proximity to energized power lines.

Safely operate company tools and equipment.

Work in an area where there are potential falling limbs.

Must have the ability to repair minor damages to customer property and/or public property due to damage incurred from tree trimming work.

Must be trained in tree and bucket rescues.

Job Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Must have a valid driver's license.

CDL is preferred.

Must be able to pass drug, alcohol, and background checks.

Must have good hand eye coordination.

Must be able to repair tools and equipment as needed.

Able and willing to travel long distances on short notice.

Able and willing to work for extended periods in various locations.

Able and willing to work in all types of weather environments including inclement weather.

Able and willing to work overtime when required.

Must be able to enter and exit vehicles numerous times per day.

Must be able to wear PPE.

Understanding of the utility industry and operations.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Excellent organization and time management skills.

High level of professionalism and integrity.

Excellent leadership and management skills.

Ability to make decisions.

Working Conditions

Work is performed outside in all types of weather environments.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Ability to bend, climb, stoop, stand, and lift for long periods of time.

Substantial movements of the hands, wrists, and/or fingers.

Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time.

Must be able to walk, climb, and work from various heights.

Must be able to work in uneven and slippery conditions.

Required to have close visual acuity to perform job duties.
