Industrial Maintenance Mechanic — CNC & Material Handling Systems

Join O’Neal Steel’s Mobile, Alabama team and keep our production lines moving. In this role, you’ll be the go-to expert ensuring our mechanical and electrical assets perform safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Day in the life

• Start your shift by reviewing preventive maintenance schedules and prioritizing work orders across CNC machines, press brakes, saws, lifting devices, and material handling systems.
• Conduct routine inspections, lubrication, alignment, and balancing to maximize uptime and extend equipment life.
• Diagnose issues across mechanical and electrical subsystems; perform root-cause analysis on unexpected failures and document findings in clear technical reports.
• Program and fine-tune Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment, and verify electrical integrity with meters and scopes (ohmmeters, voltmeters, oscilloscopes).
• Fabricate or modify parts from cold rolled and stainless steel, plate, structural shapes, plastics, fittings, and valves to return equipment to service quickly.
• Execute safe rigging, adhere to regulatory electrical codes, and recommend design or component improvements that enhance throughput and yield.

What you bring

• Broad troubleshooting ability across advanced processing and automation equipment.
• Background in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance earned through: hands-on industrial/manufacturing experience; completion of an electrical or mechanical repair training program; or a comparable mix of training and experience.
• Skill in layout and drafting for maintenance work; precision alignment and balancing; and performing safety-critical rigging tasks.
• Comfort working with high-voltage systems and maintaining equipment to code.
• Proficiency aligned to the role: heavy equipment repair, mechanical diagnostics, CNC setup/changeover, machine safety inspections; OSHA 10-hour certification is valued.

Schedule

1st Shift, Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.; overtime as business needs dictate.
