Position: SOLIDWORKS Mechanical Designer
Location: Huntsville, AL
Type: 12+ Month Contract (Potential for Direct Hire)
Schedule: 1st Shift | Monday – Friday | Onsite
Compensation: $30–$40/hour (Depending on Experience)
Clearance Requirements: Must be eligible to work on DoD projects
Pre-Employment: Must pass drug screen and background check

We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to join the Product Development team of a leading defense contractor that designs and manufactures shelter-based systems, trailer-based solutions, and power generators for the U.S. Department of Defense. Based in Huntsville, AL, this role focuses on supporting the development of trailer-mounted power and water purification systems. The ideal candidate will be experienced in using SolidWorks and AutoCAD to create high-quality models and drawings that support prototyping and production efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with engineers and business development teams to develop design concepts for trailer power and water purification systems

• Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks and AutoCAD

• Support prototype builds and assist in transitioning designs into full-scale production

• Contribute to technical presentations and proposal efforts (IRAD and business development support as needed)

• Ensure all designs are manufacturable, reliable, and meet customer and DoD specifications

• Provide design input across the entire product lifecycle—from concept through final delivery

Qualifications:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Design, Drafting, or a related technical field (Engineering degree preferred)

• Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD

• Experience designing trailer power systems, water purification systems, or similar mechanical/electrical products (preferred)

• Familiarity with prototype development and production environments

• Strong attention to detail and ability to translate engineering concepts into manufacturable designs

• Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and business development teams

• Creative problem-solver with strong organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
