Plant / Operations Manager (Rebar Fabrication Shop) Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and driven Plant / Operations Manager to oversee daily operations at our rebar fabrication facility. This role is responsible for production planning, shop efficiency, quality control, safety compliance, and workforce leadership. The manager will serve as the primary link between company leadership, production staff, plant maintenance, scheduling , in bound and outbound freight and logistics, ensuring timely, accurate, and cost-effective delivery of fabricated rebar and construction materials products.

Key Responsibilities

• Production Oversight
• Manage day-to-day operations of the rebar fabrication shop, including cutting, bending, and cage assembly.
• Develop and execute production schedules to meet project deadlines and customer requirements.
• Monitor output to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with project specifications.
• Operational Management
• Oversee inventory levels of raw steel, consumables, and shop supplies; coordinate with purchasing to prevent shortages.
• Ensure shears, benders, trucks, and all shop equipment are maintained and serviced regularly.
• Implement and monitor KPIs for production efficiency, scrap reduction, and labor utilization.
• Team Leadership
• Supervise and coach shop foremen, machine operators, yard personnel, and drivers.
• Recruit, train, and develop employees to improve technical skills and operational knowledge.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Quality & Safety
• Enforce safety protocols, OSHA standards, and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
• Establish and maintain quality control procedures to ensure fabricated rebar meets engineering drawings and project specifications.
• Conduct regular safety and quality audits.
• Coordination & Communication
• Collaborate with sales, scheduling, and project management teams to align shop output with customer needs.
• Provide daily/weekly reporting to company leadership on productivity, staffing, and operational challenges.
• Support logistics coordination for inbound material and outbound deliveries.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of management experience in rebar fabrication, steel fabrication, construction supply, or manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of rebar fabrication processes, equipment, and industry standards (ASTM, ACI, CRSI preferred).
• Proven leadership skills with ability to manage diverse teams in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
• Familiarity with scheduling, inventory control, and workflow management systems.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Knowledge in Maintenance & Repair - electrical, pneumatic , mechanical

Preferred Skills

• Experience with shop management software.
• Working knowledge of blueprint reading and rebar detailing.
• Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma background.
• CDL or logistics experience a plus.
