Position Title:

3 & 4-Year-Old Lead Teacher

Position Summary:

The 4-Year-Old Lead Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool-aged children. This position includes planning and implementing engaging lessons that support social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development while ensuring full compliance with DHR licensing standards.

Qualifications (DHR Minimum Requirements):

  • Must be at least 19 years old
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must meet ONE of the following:
    • CDA (Child Development Associate Credential), OR
    • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, OR
    • Equivalent childcare experience as recognized by DHR
  • Must complete pre-service training as required by DHR
  • Must pass:
    • Criminal background check
    • Child abuse/neglect clearance
  • Must obtain and maintain:
    • CPR & First Aid Certification
    • Health clearance (TB test/physical if required)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with early learning standards
  • Provide a structured daily schedule that includes learning centers, group activities, and outdoor play
  • Promote school readiness skills (language, literacy, math, social development)
  • Maintain a safe and clean classroom environment in compliance with DHR regulations
  • Supervise children at all times to ensure safety and well-being
  • Conduct regular observations and assessments of each child’s progress
  • Maintain accurate records (attendance, incident/accident reports, developmental notes)
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding child progress and classroom updates
  • Use positive behavior management strategies
  • Ensure proper classroom ratios are maintained at all times

DHR Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Follow all licensing rules set by the Alabama Department of Human Resources
  • Maintain required annual training hours (typically 12+ hours per year)
  • Adhere to staff-to-child ratio requirements (commonly 1:18 for 4-year-olds, confirm locally)
  • Ensure proper supervision, including during transitions, meals, and outdoor time
  • Follow sanitation procedures, including:
    • Proper handwashing
    • Cleaning and disinfecting toys and surfaces
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect immediately per state law
  • Maintain confidentiality of all children and family information

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and actively engage with children
  • Must be able to supervise children indoors and outdoors

Work Environment:

  • Classroom setting in a licensed childcare center
  • Fast-paced, child-centered environment requiring constant supervision and interaction
