Job Title: Welder Job Description

This role focuses on welding and assembling trailer components according to detailed engineering specifications. You will perform MIG welding on steel and aluminum parts in flat and vertical positions, working from blueprints, weld symbols, and precise measurements to ensure strong, accurate, and high‑quality welds throughout the trailer structure.

• Weld all required parts and joints of trailers in accordance with engineering specifications and quality standards.
• Perform MIG welding on steel and aluminum trailer components in flat and vertical positions.
• Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and engineering drawings to determine weld locations and requirements.
• Accurately use a tape measure and basic math skills to verify dimensions, layouts, and fit‑up prior to welding.
• Set up Welder #1 station, including preparing equipment and work area for beam and component assembly.
• Use an overhead crane to pick up and position beams in the setup fixture safely and accurately.
• Pick up cross members from tables at the setup station and tack weld them onto beams.
• Use an overhead crane to pick up suspensions and place them on beams in the correct position.
• Weld suspension buckets onto beams, ensuring proper alignment and penetration.
• Pick up landing gear and position it on beams according to specifications.
• Tack weld landing gear braces onto beams and bolt landing gear onto braces using a pneumatic impact gun.
• Use an overhead crane to pick up the king pin nest and weld it onto the front of beams.
• Weld the front skirt onto the front of beams, ensuring clean and secure joints.
• Weld K braces and V braces onto beams to reinforce the trailer structure.
• Weld tank brackets and backing plates as needed, following specified weld procedures.
• Set up Welder #2 station, including preparing floor sills, side rails, and fixtures.
• Pick up floor sills and slide them into designated holes in the beams.
• Set side rails into the turn jig and secure them using pneumatic clamps.
• Weld all floor sills to the beams to create a solid trailer floor structure.
• Weld tail skirt, bumper, winch track, mid turn bracket, and side rail braces according to engineering requirements.
• Move trailers from Set‑up #2 station to the Turn Fixture Welding Station using an overhead crane.
• Use the sliding trailer securement system to place pins and bolted nuts and secure the trailer in the turn jig.
• Lock trailer positioning using an air‑activated valve handle to maintain straightness and safety during welding.
• Rotate and position the trailer as needed in the turn fixture to access all weld areas safely.
• Complete any remaining or corrective welding on the trailer at the Turn Fixture Welding Station.
• Follow all safety procedures when using overhead cranes, pneumatic tools, welding equipment, and fixtures.
• Inspect welds visually and functionally to ensure they meet internal standards and pass required weld tests.
• Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work area in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
• Successfully pass the specified on‑site weld test, including T‑joint welds, flat welds, and welds on trailer components, and potentially welding in a turn jig.

• Proficiency in MIG welding on steel and aluminum trailer parts.
• Ability to weld in flat and vertical positions with consistent quality.
• Mechanical aptitude to assemble and fit trailer components correctly.
• Basic math skills to calculate and verify measurements and layouts.
• Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure for precise fabrication.
• Ability to read and interpret weld symbols and blueprints.
• Capability to pass the specified weld test, including T‑joint welds and flat welds on trailer components.
• Experience with MIG and aluminum welding.
• Ability to safely operate overhead cranes to move and position beams, suspensions, and trailer assemblies.
• Ability to use pneumatic impact guns and pneumatic clamps safely and effectively.
• Attention to detail to ensure weld quality, alignment, and structural integrity.
• Commitment to following safety procedures in a production welding environment.

• Welding experience in a production or fabrication environment is preferred.
• Formal welding training or completion of a welding program.
• Experience with aluminum welding and steel welding in a manufacturing setting.
• Familiarity with TIG welding, flux core welding, and stainless steel welding.
• Experience with fitting and fabrication of structural components.
• Ability to perform welds on turn jigs and rotating fixtures.
• Comfort working with large trailer components and structural assemblies.
• Strong problem‑solving skills to address fit‑up or weld quality issues as they arise.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a production team.

You will join a production environment where your welding skills directly contribute to building high‑quality trailers and visible finished products. This role is based in a production and fabrication facility focused on trailer manufacturing. You will work around large structural components using MIG welding equipment, overhead cranes, pneumatic impact guns, pneumatic clamps, and turn fixtures. The environment is hands‑on, with regular use of welding machines, fabrication tools, and material handling equipment. Work involves standing for extended periods, moving and positioning heavy components with crane assistance, and welding in flat and vertical positions as well as on a turn jig. Standard industrial safety practices apply, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment such as welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing suitable for a welding and fabrication shop.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Haleyville, AL.

The pay range for this position is $27.40 - $27.40/hr.
