Job Description
Position Summary
The Worship Pastor is responsible for leading the church in authentic, Christ-centered worship that supports the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ. This individual will provide spiritual leadership for the worship ministry, oversee worship services, develop worship teams consisting of musicians and praise team members, and work closely with the Senior Pastor to plan services that are biblically sound and gospel-focused.
Primary Responsibilities for the Worship Ministry
Plan and lead weekly corporate worship services in cooperation with the Senior Pastor.
Select biblically faithful music that supports the sermon and church vision.
Lead worship vocally and, if applicable, instrumentally.
Coordinate special worship services, including Christmas, Easter, revivals, and other church events.
Foster a worship environment that encourages congregational participation.
Recruit, train, and disciple worship team members, choir members, musicians, and technical volunteers.
Schedule rehearsals and ensure teams are prepared for worship services.
Encourage spiritual growth and unity among all worship ministry volunteers.
Ensure worship technology functions effectively for all services and events.
Prepare worship schedules and distribute them in advance.
Manage the worship ministry budget responsibly.
Maintain licensing requirements for music usage.
Develop a worship team and lead worship for the College ministry.
Develop a worship team and lead worship for the Student ministry.
Oversee kid’s choir leadership working closely with leaders on planning and development.
Supervise the use and maintenance of all musical instruments and audio/media equipment, including providing oversight of volunteer training.
Oversee the worship and audio/media budgets, authorizing all disbursements.
Supervise the production ministry working closely with the production team leader.
Coordinate with church staff regarding ministry calendars and events.
Serve as a member of the church ministry staff.
Participate in staff meetings and ministry planning.
Assist in pastoral care, hospital visitation, guest follow up, and discipleship as assigned.
Support the overall ministries and mission of the church.
Primary Responsibilities for the Discipleship Ministry
Assist the Pastor in overseeing all life groups, including, but not limited to, encouraging volunteer staff, recruiting and training volunteer leaders and teachers, conducting regular meetings, planning, implementing, administrating, and publicizing.
Assist the Pastor in overseeing follow-up of guests.
Assist the Pastor in curriculum research, development, and selection for all groups.
Assist the Pastor in creation of new groups, both short- and long-term as necessary, including leader recruitment and training.
Assist the Pastor in overseeing the discipleship and life group ministry budget, authorizing all disbursements.
Qualifications
A growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a life that reflects biblical character.
Agreement with the church’s statement of faith and the Southern Baptist Convention’s Baptist Faith and Message 2000 (and the church’s governing doctrinal statement).
Demonstrated calling to worship ministry.
Experience leading congregational worship in a local church.
Strong vocal ability and proficiency on at least one instrument (preferred).
Ability to lead both contemporary worship and incorporate traditional elements as appropriate for the congregation.
Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Seminary or college training in music, worship, or ministry is preferred but not required based on experience. Bachelor Degree is required. Master’s Degree in Ministry or Christian Education is encouraged.
