Daphne, AL : Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a skilled Financial Counselor (FC) to support patients by explaining financial obligations, verifying insurance benefits, estimating out-of-pocket costs, collecting payments, and assisting with payment arrangements to ensure a smooth, patient-friendly access process.

Essential Duties

Patient Financial Advising & Collections

• Communicate patient balances due prior to or at the time of service.
• Collect payments, issue receipts, and maintain accurate financial documentation.
• Establish approved payment plans and document arrangements in patient accounts.
• Assist patients in understanding available payment options.
• Verify insurance benefits, coverage limitations, co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance.
• Clearly communicate verified financial responsibility to patients.
• Coordinate with scheduling and clinical teams to resolve benefit-related issues.

Self-Pay Patient Support

• Provide self-pay patients with accurate cost estimates for scheduled tests, procedures, and services.
• Apply approved self-pay discounts, uninsured rates, or prompt-pay discounts in accordance with policy.
• Educate patients on available financial assistance programs.
• Ensure proper documentation of discounts, estimates, and self-pay arrangements.

Cost Estimates & Pricing Communication

• Generate detailed cost estimates using approved pricing and estimation tools.
• Review procedure codes, scheduled services, and benefit information to ensure accuracy.
• Explain estimated charges clearly and address patient questions in a supportive manner.

Customer Service & Patient Support

• Communicate with professionalism, empathy, and clarity, particularly during sensitive financial discussions.
• Assist patients experiencing financial hardship and refer them to appropriate assistance programs.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with privacy standards and regulations.

Requirements / Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
• Previous experience in healthcare financial counseling, patient access, medical billing, or revenue cycle operations preferred.
• Strong knowledge of insurance verification, benefits interpretation, and payment processing.
• Ability to calculate patient financial responsibility and explain complex information clearly.
• Proficiency in computer systems, patient accounting software, and standard office applications.
• Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with healthcare privacy regulations.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
• Frequent verbal communication with patients and staff.
• Ability to occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
• Visual acuity sufficient to review documentation and computer screens.
